Bardsey Reserves 0 Knaresborough Town Reserves (0) 2

    Team: G.Dight; J.Hebden, E.Plumpton, A.Pickles, N.Radcliffe; D.Wilson, J.Dawson, B.Lazenby D.McDaid; J.Purkis (P.Beales), B.Hobson. Subs. (not used): C.Robinson, B.King, S.Latimer, I.Wade.

The reserves scored twice in the second half of Tuesday’s West Yorkshire League Challenge Trophy final at Garforth Town to take the trophy for the third year in succession as Bardsey reserves were beaten 2-0.

A Dan McDaid corner from the right wing in the third minute beat everyone but came back off the far post and the same player forced a good save from the Bardsey goalkeeper and watched as James Purkis shot wide from the rebound.

Blaine Hobson then had a fine overhead kick tipped on to the bar and soon afterwards hit wide following a corner.

Dom Wilson was the next to go close when he broke clear but rushed his shot over the bar and then Purkis had a shot from wide right saved.

The first goal arrived in the 52nd minute when McDaid’s shot from distance squirmed between goalkeeper and post to give ‘Boro’ a deserved lead.

Within a minute, John Hebden’s rash tackle conceded a penalty but Gareth Dight dived to his left to beat away the spot kick and preserve the side’s lead.

Hobson had a shot saved as he broke clear and Nick Radcliffe fired wide after a good run.

Andy Pickles picked up the game’s only yellow card as Bardsey pressed briefly, but in the 85th minute, Hobson was tripped and Knaresborough were awarded the game’s second penalty. Unfortunately, Dan McDaid’s kick was saved and a nervous finish looked likely until the second minute of added time when another McDaid shot was saved and Jimmy Dawson, later to be awarded man of the match, slid the loose ball home.

Captain, Eddie Plumpton, soon took delivery of the cup to the delight of a large Knaresborough following.
